Senator Reid and Congressman Heller Show Support for Military Veterans and their Families

Today was a banner day for the Veterans Guest House. We were visited by our senior U.S. Senator Harry Reid. Senator Reid was very impressed with the House and was very complimentary about the House and the services that we provide. He also was very aware that it has been supported completely with private funds to date. He spoke about the House at the news conference. The Q&A session lasted about 20 minutes and many issues were addressed. Senator Reid was very supportive of finding funding to help the House.

General Information About Veterans Guest House

The Veterans Guest House provides a place for veterans and the families of veterans to stay while their loved ones receive medical care.

The idea of a Veterans Guest House was born when one of the founders of the Guest House found a family living in a car while the veteran was receiving medical care. It did not take long for a group of dedicated volunteers to decide that veterans deserve better. The Veterans Guest House opened in 1991 in a small leased house across the street from the VA Medical Center. The leased house was purchased several years later. In 2004 a brand new Veterans Guest House opened.

The building has grown and been improved over the years. However, the purpose of the Veterans Guest House remains unchanged. The Veterans Guest House offers veterans and their families caring support during times of medical need.

The Veterans Guest House is financed by donations and by the fund raising efforts of dedicated volunteers. The Veterans Guest House does not receive any financial support from the U.S. government, the VA Medical Center or the states of California or Nevada.

Contact Noreen Leary, the Executive Director of Veterans Guest House, 775- 324-6958, for more information about the House, to arrange a tour of the House or to join the generous people who support the House with their time and their money.
